Week 5

Well after that explosion of offense in Week 5 fun fact for you. Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season was the highest scoring week in our league history. In Week 5 all five matchups had the winner score over 100 points, 8 of the 10 teams scored over 100 points (the 9th had 97 and then there was me). Brent scored 153 points which is tied for the 5th highest scoring week of all time so it was very clearly a high powered offense week. The 2nd highest scoring week in league history was prior to this past week was Week 6 of 2018 when 6 owners scored over 100 points and Umphlett and Jeff scored over 140 (in different matchups). Over the past 10 seasons we have averaged 2.2 weeks with over 1000 points. This year we already have two (Week 4 and 5) and all 5 weeks have been over 900 points. It is definitely Fantasy Football szn.
A couple of thoughts from around the league:
Did we see the long awaited breakout game from Kyle Pitts or is he only good in London?

Davante Adams has always been a target hog, but this is starting to get out of control.

One of the most bizarre storylines from Week 1 was the usage of James Robinson and the role of Carlos Hyde. There seems to be a number of odd things going on with the Jaguars, but at least they seem to have figured out that James Robinson is probably better than Carlos Hyde.

Do we have a new #1 WR in New York? Aaron Hinton thinks so after dropping $43 cookies on him.

Injuries continue to play a devastating role in the league with players dropping like flies. The importance of depth is more important than ever, but having startable players doesn't matter if they can't outscore anyone.

PSA for Dirty Mike (and the Kayak Pirates)

And quite possibly the biggest story of the season so far: The Los Angeles Chargers. What Justin Herbert is doing is out of control and the fact that he lasted until the 7th round is a crime and he is single handedly pulling an Undertaker Gif for Andy's Face Shield. But even more importantly look what Mike Williams is doing. WOW! He is the #1 WR in the league, he leads the NFL in TDs, and he has scored double digits in 80% of his games with two games of over 20 points. AND HE HASN'T STARTED A SINGLE WEEK FOR DIRTY MIKE. Can someone say locker room issue? I feel like we have a 1994 UNC Basketball Situation here. Hint, Jerry Stackhouse is better than Pat Sullivan.
EDITORS NOTE: It has been pointed out to me that Brent actually did start Mike Williams once in Week 3. So I apologize for the confusion.

FYI for people not familiar with The Undertaker Gif:
Ok let's get to the awards.
Manager of the Weak

I guess I didn't really carry my weight last week in the "hey lets all score over 100 points competition". I am not really sure what to say right now. Nothing is working. Nothing. But hey I got the Weekly Notes up early. That means something right? Right?!?! Right?!?!?! The answer is clearly that we are in the middle of a Pandemic*.
P.S. I seriously think we need a congressional hearing on the schedule making process. Everyone wants to talk about Russia, and Email Servers, and all this other crap but the real mystery is the process of making the schedule. I demand justice.
Move of the Week

While everyone was going absolutely crazy on the waiver wire for backup Running Backs, Billy snagged a player that could be a difference maker at the TE spot. For a cool 11 cookies Billy got Dawson Knox who is now tied for the 2nd highest scoring TE in the league (and that is after a ridiculous 30 points from Mark Andrews). Knox is only 5 points behind Kelce, leads the NFL for TD catches from the TE position, and now has three consecutive double digit scoring weeks. He played 96% of the snaps on Sunday night and looks locked in as a top 10 TE and probably is highly likely to finish the year as a top 5 TE. The one warning sign is that his targets are low (24 YTD) so he has been highly efficient when he has caught the ball, but in an offense like the Bills there are going to be chances for explosive plays. Regardless, Billy picking up Knox may not only be the move of the week, it may turn out to be the move of the year.

MVP
Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Jamarr Chase, Josh Allen, Antonio Brown

Antonio Brown is now the 19th ranked WR in the league after being a late round keeper for VZ. Brown has been a little hit or miss, but I think a huge factor has been the fact that he got the Rona and was out of action for two weeks. But in he has scored 18+ points in 50% of the games he has played and with Tom Brady looking like the ghost of Joe Montana every week who knows where we are going here. As a reminder Antonio Brown was the #1 WR in Fantasy for multiple years with the Steelers and has an ability to get open at will so obviously VZ will be hoping that Brown continues to shine for the Bucs and his franchise. In Week 5 he led his team in Fantasy Points scoring 24 with 124 receiving yards and 2 Touchdowns. There is clearly only one word to describe this week 5 MVP performance: Boomin.
Manager of the Week
I Love Tom, No I Love Lamar, No I Love Tom, No I Love Lamar. Just make up your mind already. After a week where it was clearly looking obvious that Brent had yet again started the wrong QB, Lamar Jackson went nuclear with a "hey lets throw the ball to Mark Andrews every single play for a quarter and a half and see what happens strategy". And for some reason the Colts thought that was a good idea so they played along. But wow after Brady scored 44 points I thought for sure Brent had picked the wrong guy again, but look he isn't the Hype Train for nothing and Lamar said "hold my beer" and dropped 46 points in what felt like a single quarter (wait it was basically a single quarter). One of the most fascinating points of my weekly routine these days is checking Brent's roster to see which of these two QBs he is going to start (and trying to figure out what process he is using). I guess it's a high class problem when one of them scores 44 points and the other scores 46 but can anyone ever remember a team in league history that had this much firepower at QB? Can you imagine if we played in a super flex league and he could start both of them? WOW! With Alvin Kamara back on track after a week 2 dud (he has three straight games of double digit points) and Mark Andrews morphing into the 2nd coming of Tony Gonzalez we could be onto something here. Brent had a huge Week 5 performance to get his first win and he is hungry for more. So hungry that he actually asked Lamar to drop by to do a live press conference for fans of The Notes:
Congrats to Brent and the black is for sunday squad for winning your Week 6 Manager of the Week award!
Until Week 6...
