Week 4

I am writing this during the TNF Bears vs. Redskins game. And the Bears are beating the pants off of the Redskins. The NFL is a clown show. I mean seriously, we should play for the opposite of what is supposed to happen. This is just ludicrous. I just can’t get over how some teams in the NFL absolutely have no ability to do anything week to week. And it just changes every week.
“It’s Unbelievable” – Al Michaels
But let’s talk about what happened in Week 4.
Well hello Dirty Mike. Welcome to the show. Justin Fields maybe isn’t terrible? Or maybe he is and he is just good if he is playing the Broncos or a Defense that I started? 146 points scored in Week 4 with 4 players scoring at least 20 points, he put an absolute beat down on KRABS.
With The Institute’s Week 4 Rivalry Week victory, VZ has now won 7 consecutive Rivalry Week matchups vs. black is for sunday. That is excruciating.
Umphlett won his first Rivalry week matchup since Week 4 of 2021 and that is only the 3rd time since we reshuffled Rivals in 2016 that he has won in Rivalry Week.
Showmedamoney! has no won 4 consecutive Rivalry matchups and with 9 rivalry week wins actually has the third most rivalry week wins in league history.
Aaron Hinton has been busy tonight with three (!) trades. Trading Kelce is a bold move cotton, will be interesting to see how this changes the course of the season. It can’t get worse that is for sure. Something tells me he is going to be very interested in this week’s MVP.
In other news how about Tez Walker finally having his Waiver Approved. It only took the NCAA NINE times in review. If you want to learn more read or listen to this:
Now I know what drives ratings. And no it isn’t Jeff Wilson Jr (I mean seriously, how is he still on a fantasy roster). It is reveling in the pain of The Commish. I look at my roster right now and this is what I feel like:
HE’S GOING TO PUT MARQUISE BROWN ON! HE’S GOING TO PUT MARQUISE BROWN ON!
Basically the only thing consistent right now is that I am losing 1 starter to injury a week. But seriously, what the heck is going on. Let’s look at the players I have actually drafted and the fate of their offenses. Seriously if the goal was to draft key players on offenses that sucked then man, I am elite:
Jacksonville Jaguars: Preseason they were FTN’s #6 projected offense by DVOA. After 4 games, they are the 20th in points per game. Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne have combined for 5 Touchdowns after 4 games and now Lawrence has been benched.
Cincinnati Bengals: Preseason they were FTN’s #2 projected offense by DVOA. After 4 games, they are 31 out of 32 in points per game. That is almost the worst. Tee Higgins had an amazing week in Week 2, but outside of that he has 3 points (combined) in the other 3 games he has played. And now he has broken ribs.
New England Patriots: Preseason they were FTN’s #17 projected offense by DVOA. After 4 games they are 30 out of 32 teams in points per game. Rhamondre Stevenson was a top 10 RB last year, averaged 5.0 yards a carry, and caught 69 passes. He currently is averaging 2.7 yards a carry.
New York Giants: Preseason they were FTN’s #21st projected offense by DVOA. After 4 games they are currently 32 out of 32 teams in points per game. Like the absolute worst. Saquon Barkley had a great game in Week 2. But guess what. He got hurt. Hasn’t played since.
Mike Williams: out for the year. But boy Keenan Allen and those other Chargers Wide Receivers look good.
New York Jets: Preseason they were FTN’s #12 projected offense by DVOA. After 4 games they are currently 28 out of 32 teams in points per game. Aaron Rogers got injured and out for the year after the 4th place all but crushing any dreams of a massive season from Breece Hall.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Preseason they were FTN’s #15 projected offense by DVOA. After 4 games they are currently 29 out of 32 teams in points per game. Pat Freiermuth was a preseason sleeper, but after 4 games only had 13 targets (although he managed to catch two touchdowns) but two of his 4 weeks he scored 0 points. Oh and guess what. He’s hurt. Jaylen Warren was a big sleeper to potentially unseat Najee Harris. Who cares who unseats a Running Back on an offense that is 29 out of 32 teams.
So the headline here is that I have basically picked players on the absolute worst / garbage offenses in the NFL. And then those players got hurt. Sigh.
Do You Feel Sorry For The Commish? P.S. The Answer is Yes.

Before we get to the awards let’s check this week’s episode of Gridiron Heights:
Manager of the Weak

Life comes at you fast. Just like the Bills humbled the Dolphins in Week 4, Overbay had a huge upset over the Juggernaut Kayak Pirates. The Dolphins offense finally hit a speed bump with Tua only having one passing Touchdown and Hill or Waddle not catching it. The Cowboys beat the Patriots so bad that they decided that they didn’t even need to use Tony Pollard. And George Kittle only had 1 target, 1 reception, for 9 yards. So it was a bad day at the office for Jeff and Jacob, but something tells me that this roster is going to bounce back. But if you only score 52 points in a week then you are probably going to win Manager of the Weak.
Move of the Week

On the surface, benching James Conner and Deebo Samuel for Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara seems like an odd decision. Especially considering that Conner and Samuel combined for 34 fantasy points in Week 3. Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara didn’t exactly light anything up, but they scored 13 fantasy points. Conner and Samuel combined for 5 Fantasy Points. In a 4 point victory that is the difference between a victory and a loss!
MVP

AJ Brown, Nico Collins, Christian McCaffery, Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen
Jalen Hurts – 25 Fantasy Points, 25/37, 319 Passing Yards, 2 Passing Touchdowns, 34 Rushing Yards
Last week I said: “I don’t know about you but Jalen Hurts looks awful. Like really bad. I have watched large parts of two Eagles games right now and he just looks bad. But because he somehow gets at least 1 one yard rushing touchdown every game he still scores Fantasy Points. But he is missing receivers like he is planning to be Zach Wilson for Halloween.”
What did Jalen Hurts do in Week 4? He scored a matchup high 25 fantasy points. Clearly he must have been listening. Now of course he was playing the Redskins Defense who I apparently thought was good so I guess that is why Hurts did well. But still. Hurts apparently took The Notes personally. Congrats to Jalen Hurts for winning the Week 4 MVP!
Manager Of The Week

This was discussed above but Dirty Mike dropped a sonic boom in Week 4 with 146 points. Justin Fields came alive with 33 points, McCaffery had 41 points, Mark Andrews had 20 points, and wildly Kyren Williams had 24 Fantasy Points. That was Williams 3rd (!!!) 17+ point fantasy scoring week. He doesn’t really have any depth (we are looking at starting Cam Akers and Kadarius Toney in bye weeks, woof) but man if you have 4 players scoring 20+ points in a week that is one explosive lineup (in fact it was tied for 13th all time for highest scoring week in league history and the 4th highest scoring week over the last 5 seasons). This performance certainly has him fired up and it will be interesting to see how his season progresses from here. Congrats to Dirty Mike and Brent C for winning the Week 4 Manager of the Week!
Until Week 5…
And the Bears and Redskins game has ended. Mercifully. Sigh.
