Well after watching UNC Football completely get embarrassed who wants to talk some more about Football? I mean hooray for Football!
P.S. Jacob I hope you didn’t bet a significant amount of money on UNC to cover.
I think the big headline from Week 2 was obviously the injuries. The injuries are just out of control. Pacheco broke his leg, Herbert rolled his ankle, Cooper Kupp got a high ankle sprain, Justin Jefferson is apparently OK, but didn’t finish the game last week, Taysom Hill hurt his chest, Tyjae Spears hurt his ankle, Graham Gano lasted one play and forced the Giants to go for two the whole game. So week 2 was just rough. But not as rough as the James Madison game for UNC Football.
In other news:
Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Quentin Johnston were both first-round WR selections in the 2023 draft and both flopped in their rookie campaigns. Yesterday, however, brought redemption for both:
JSN vs. the Patriots: 16 targets (37% target share), 12 receptions, 117 yards
QJ vs. the Panthers: 6 targets, 5 receptions, 51 yards, and 2 TDsCan they keep it up
The Bryce Young era is over in Charlotte. I think. But I mean the Panthers line vs. the Raiders moved like 2 points after they benched Young. That is wild. What an absolute disaster.

The New Orleans Saints offense is on fire. They are literally 15/15 on their drives in scoring. They have scored points on 100% of their drives. Derek Carr has been elite through two games. Can they keep it up?
And finally the Rookie Skill players arrived in Week 2.
Maserati Marv went nuclear against the Rams on Sunday. He put up 130 yards and 2 TDs against an overwhelmed Rams secondary … in the first quarter. Oh, and if you were worried about his speed, MHJ reached 20.03 mph on his 60-yard TD.
Nabers put the entire Giants offense on his back with a laugh-out-loud-worthy target share (62%). He finished the game with 10-127-1 and a gaudy 18 targets.
Bowers didn't find the end zone yesterday, but posted 9 catches for 98 yards. His stats through two career games (17 targets, 15 receptions, 156 receiving yards) put him in rarefied air.
And for the record, as of the writing of this column, Florida State still hasn’t technically won a game.
Before we get to this week’s awards, check out this week’s episode of Gridiron Heights!
Episode 3:
Manager of the Weak

Week 1 was an impressive and heartstopping 1 point victory over The Institute. Week 2 was well… different. Dirty Mike and the Boys had a disappointing 20 point loss where they were only able to score 67 points. In last week’s column I spoke about if the Fantasy Production of Anthony Richardson was sustainable. Well in Week 2 it wasn’t. He had 9 points and when the 50 yard bombs weren’t dropping he struggled. Joe Mixon came back to earth and was hurt. Tua is injured and the entire Miami Dolphins team seems to be in a tailspin impacting Tyreek. But hey lets look at the upside. It’s almost Brocktober and Brock Bowers seems like a steal as a 8th round pick. Flowers and Smith are great players and could have break out years, but hey things are looking up now because look who is back on the roster…. Cam Akers baby!
Move of the Week

Well Offense in the NFL is down. And Field Goals are at an all time high. So what the heck lets give another award to a kicker… because well I can. Umphlett picked up Chris Boswell who scored 9 points in a 8 point victory. That feels like a difference maker. The kicker revolution has arrived.
MVP

Marvin Harrison Jr, James Cook, Rashee Rice, Jordan Mason, Nico Collins
Some big performances in Week 2 but I am going to give the award to Michigan State grad Jordan Mason. Wait what? He didn’t go to Michigan State? He went to Ga Tech? Oh. Well that doesn’t fit the Belt Buckle Narrative, but hey lets just run with it. Jordan Mason now is tied for 5th in Fantasy Points for RBs and is number two in Rushing Yards in the NFL. Obviously the dream will end, but if McCaffery is really out until after the bye, Mason is an absolute steal for Umphlett through Week 9 which is a massive haul. He has scored at least 16 Fantasy Points both games and is looking like a lock in the starting lineup for the next few weeks. Congrats to Jordan Mason (I mean just typing that is unreal) for winning the Week 2 MVP!
Manager Of The Week

Week 1, The Commish’s opponent scored the most points in the league and won Manager of the Week. Week 2, The Commish’s opponent scored the most points in the league and won Manager of the Week. I am sensing a trend. The Dolphins basically did nothing in the Thursday night game and Achane had 29 (!!!) touches. Justin Jefferson had a 97 Yard Touchdown Reception (!!!). But the most impressive performance was Marvin Harrison who had 25 points in the first quarter. On 4 catches. It was like the Rams basically said “ok we will give you one quarter where we won’t guard you”. But none of this was even the best performance. Alvin Kamara scored 41 Fantasy Points. On Overbay’s bench. To put that into perspective, if Overbay had started Kamara he would have scored 155 points. 155 points would have been the 5th highest scoring week in league history.
In case you are wondering the current top 5 high scoring weeks are:
5) 154 Points: The Commish vs. KRABS in Week 5 2019.
4) 157 Points: Kayak Pirates vs. The Commish in Week 8 2022.
3) 162 Points: Jerry’s Belt Buckle vs. the icon in Week 13 2014.
2) 171 Points: The Institute vs. Kayak Pirates in Week 8 2004.
1) 184 Points: Kayak Pirates vs. the icon in Week 12 2020.
This boxscore is wild.

Congrats to Overbay for having a massive rebound in Week 2 for a huge victory and winning the Week 2 Manager of the Week!
Until Week 3…
- The Commish
